Hover Head, created with acrylics on paper, is a darker take on the Wizard's false front from the Wizard of Oz. Although as a child you would see the smoke and fire as something quite scary, when you get older and know the film well, the fear seems more distant. Now, having been exposed to a lot more scary things in life, I think physical entities in movies, like the alien Xenomorph in Alien, is more frightening than a digital counter part. If I was to get the chance to remake the Wizard of Oz, and here's hoping I do, I would make the Wizard's faux face real. Like a massive animatronics robot covered in rubber to make it look like flesh and give it a husky voice. I would make it look a little like the Pale Man, from Pan's Labyrinth. I would have no interest in making that film for children. It would be intended to scare the adults who watched it as a child who are no longer scared of it and this rough doodle would be my Wizard head... or something like it.
