I draw a lot of creatures and monsters, it's no secret, but I don't _design_ creatures as such. Doing concept work for computer games means you have to design a creature, not just draw one and that entails a different approach. Looking back over my work, I can see that I need to push my design skills a little harder. Today, Creature Concept A, is a design for a design sake and will be the first of many. When I do more, I will come up with a type of landscape or habitat and think about how a creature would exist and survive there. What would it eat, how would it defend itself, where would it sleep, how would it attract a mate? All questions that help to build a believable creature concept. This questioning is an exercise used by many great concept illustrators in games and films and I know I have a project coming up that will require me to do some concept work, so I better get in the practice!
